Law enforcement agencies conducted extensive searches for Sudiksha Konanki who disappeared at age 20 when visiting the Dominican Republic as a University of Pittsburgh student on spring break with her five companions earlier this month. Negotiations concerning the case continue at the local level between Dominican Republic police and officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The hotel guest Konanki disappeared on March 6 during an electrical outage at Riu República Hotel in Punta Cana which describes itself as a busy beach destination. Dominican police continue to interview every person present with Kristine at the beach in front of the hotel at the beginning of that morning. Hotel representatives stated that the power failure created an opportunity for guests to leave the hotel so they walked to the beach around the same time when the teenager vanished.
Authorities state that her disappearance occurred before dawn when she visited a beach near her hotel with hotel guests during a power outage. The authorities stated through Associated Press that Sudiksha Konanki became missing before dawn when she left the beach area near her hotel during an early morning power disruption. The family of the student reported she entrusted her phone and wallet to friends despite her constant habit of keeping these items with her. The group of female students including Konanki visited the Dominican Republic on March 3. During his weekly press briefing Dominican President Luis Abinader indicated his concern while stating that all government agencies search for the missing students.
He revealed the most recent comments from the witness which reported a wave struck them as they were on the beach. During his conversation Abinader asserted the safety of Dominican tourism by showing that the country welcomes 11 million visitors every year with low instances of accidents. Civil defence director Juan Salas denied all reports about Konanki's clothing items found in El Nuevo Diario by saying the claims were completely false.
Since Sudiksha Konanki vanished from Dominican territory police have reinterviewed all people who accompanied her before her disappearance. The east coastal waters of the island receive searches from investigators who utilize drones along with helicopter-based operations and detection dog teams. The Dominican President Abinader disclosed on Monday that the person who last saw Konanki described a huge wave that hit them when they were at the beach. Salas who serves as civil defence director stated investigators have not discovered any pieces of her clothing during their searches.
